The story itself is dry and bland and moves at a snail's pace. It's unclear what is at stake or why readers should care if the protagonist achieves her goal because she doesn't seem all that driven by it. Several scenes could have been cut or felt out of place (like the cruise aboard Bono's yacht). The fauxmance was forced and unbelievable. It made absolutely no sense that Marco would ask her to escort him to some players party, seeing as he's portrayed as a player/lothario type. They hook up maybe three times in a year and suddenly he's calling her his girlfriend. Again, totally untrue to the character. Their relationship is all over the place and he goes from being super into Charlie to a total douche literally overnight. The nemesis is predictable - hot and bitchy but never gets hers in the end, which was unsatisfying. Many of the scenes didn't push the story along, and I wanted to scream at the upteenth time Weisberger stops a scene to go back in time, making an already too long story longer. By the time I got to the third act I was skimming. The ending was predictable and forced, again creating a relationship where there really wasn't one because all happy endings must include a man.
